WestJet brings Canadians home from Guatemala City, Guatemala and Georgetown, Guyana
Today more Canadians are home after arriving last night from Guatamala City, Guatamala and tonight from Georgetown, Guayana to Toronto. Today’s flight is scheduled to arrive into Toronto at 9:54 p.m. local and is carrying 150 guests. The flight is WestJet’s eighth flight in collaboration with the Government of Canada, which to-date has seen more than 1,200 Canadians arrive home. Photos from the Georgetown flight are available for download here.
WestJet also has the following international repatriation flights scheduled and available for sale:
- April 20, 2020 from Georgetown (GEO) to Toronto (YYZ)
- April 20, 2020 from Nassau (NAS) to Toronto (YYZ)
Said, Mathieu Bergeron, WestJet Inflight (Guatamala City), “When I left my house at 3:45 a.m. Friday, I felt proud to put on the uniform once again, proud to be WestJetter, a Canadian. I didn’t know what to expect of that day, or how our guests would respond. Home now, reflecting on the day, I can really feel that our guests were grateful.”
These flights are part of WestJet’s efforts to care for Canadian citizens after the suspension of international service due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, WestJet is keeping critical economic lifelines open in Canada through continued operations to all the cities it currently serves with decreased frequency.
WestJet statement on Face Masks (issued April 17)
Beginning Monday, April 20 at 10 a.m. MT, WestJet, following Transport Canada’s directive, will require all guests to wear a non-medical face mask or face covering during flight.
In support of the directive, it will be mandatory for WestJet’s guests to wear protective face coverings throughout their travel journey, including at the airport and while in flight. Travellers will be required to have a protective face covering prior to CATSA screening. In addition and per the Directive, travellers will be required to show that they have a suitable face covering prior to boarding a WestJet flight. Guests will be asked to temporarily remove the mask while their identification is verified.
As defined in the order, a face mask is a non-medical mask or face covering that should be:
- made of at least two layers of tightly woven material (such as cotton or linen)
- large enough to completely and comfortably cover the nose and mouth without gaping
- secured to the head by ties or ear loops

WestJet also asks that guests adhere to the following guidelines, while boarding and on our aircraft:
- Keeping two metres (six feet) of distance between the guest in front and behind when boarding
- Using the WestJet App to download boarding passes to display on phones
