Zoe Elverum, a grade 12 student from the community of Pond Inlet, Nunavut. Last May, started a petition on change.org for the federal government to provide more support to our Canadian Airlines to weather the COVID-19 crisis, and needs your help to make my petition known to the rest of the country.

As you may already know, airlines have been hit hard during the current pandemic. Air Canada alone has had to cut its workforce by at least half, laying-off around 20,000 of their employees across Canada. As well, the airline is only currently flying at 5% of their capacity, they are losing 22 million dollars a day, and have already cut some of their routes. And this is just one airline!! Westjet has had to also lay-off thousands of employees and has grounded much of their fleet. Some airlines have already had some support from the government, as well as benefited from the wage subsidy, many airline employees have applied for the CERB or EI. But as we may have all seen, it has not been enough.
