Help Bring our Mystery Airplane Home

The Saskatchewan Aviation Museum and Learning Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan is asking for donations to recover an airplane of historic significance, bring it to our museum in Saskatoon and restore it to its original Saskatchewan Government Airways 1959 colours.
Through this restoration initiative, this airplane will tell two stories:
1. The 59-year-old mystery surrounding the demise of this aircraft and crew
2. The integral role that Saskatchewan Government Airways played in provincial aviation history during the 1950’s
On August 20, 1959, A Provincial Government pilot and a conservation officer were flying a Cessna 180 float plane from Buffalo Narrows to La Loche when their plane went down in Peter Pond Lake. In July of 2018 a search was initiated by the daughter and son-in-law of the Pilot. Using sonar technology and reports from local residents the missing plane was located.
On January 30, 2019, this 60-year-old aviation mystery was laid to rest in northern Saskatchewan when a Police dive team was able to find and confirm the identity of the plane, recover human remains and personal effects that went missing in 1959 – thus providing closure for the families.
Our museum strives to preserve and tell the stories of those that worked to provide services to Saskatchewan. Please consider supporting this restoration initiative.
