News, Fleet Information, Airport Log and More

Direct from WESTJET, an Alberta Partnership

Due to the volume of media inquiries related to WestJet’s response to coronavirus (COVID-19) our goal is to provide you with the information you need to inform the public.

Through these consistent updates, we are committed to providing you with the most up-to-date and accurate information available. We are also posting to the WestJet blog and social media channels regularly.

NETWORK

We have updated our scheduling to allow for domestic connections within 24 hours to accommodate some airports along with schedule limitations.

FLEXIBLE/CHANGE CANCEL POLICY NOW INCLUDES MAY

We continue to offer our guests flexible change/cancel policies for travel in March, April and May with refund to travel bank for use within 24-months. We have updated our travel bank policy to extend its use by a year (to 24 months) ensuring our guests have enough opportunity to take the flight or vacation they had planned on prior to the escalation of this global crisis.

SOCIAL DISTANCING (Guest seating)

When possible, we are looking to provide spacing between guests.

COVID-19 AIRCRAFT FOGGING

WestJet is now fogging all 737 and Q400 aircraft in YYC with disinfection spray as part of our enhanced overnight cleaning and sanitization regimen.

We expect to bring this process to Edmonton (end of week) and Toronto (early next week).

This process consists of fogging an entire aircraft (inside) to provide a complete disinfection using a hydrogen peroxide-based solution cleaner.

The process takes 15 minutes to complete and product dissipates within 20 minutes.

Fogging enables us to thoroughly disinfect an aircraft due to a possible COVID-19 case and allows us to load guests and continue flying with little disruption.

AFFECTED FLIGHTS – visit the blog

We recently updated our affected flights blog as the safety of our guests and crews is our top priority. It is our goal to be open and transparent throughout this rapidly evolving situation.

We ask for your (media) assistance in sharing these updates with the public as understandably, the burden has become unmanageable across the board for our health partners. All information on affected flights is posted here as it becomes available: https://blog.westjet.com/operational-updates-coronavirus-covid-19/
