From WestJet
Statement on Face Masks
Beginning Monday, April 20 at 10 a.m. MT, WestJet, following Transport Canada’s directive, will require all guests to wear a non-medical face mask or face covering during flight.
In support of the directive, it will be mandatory for WestJet’s guests to wear protective face coverings throughout their travel journey, including at the airport and while in flight. Travellers will be required to have a protective face covering prior to CATSA screening. In addition and per the Directive, travellers will be required to show that they have a suitable face covering prior to boarding a WestJet flight. Guests will be asked to temporarily remove the mask while their identification is verified.
As defined in the order, a face mask is a non-medical mask or face covering that should be:
- made of at least two layers of tightly woven material (such as cotton or linen)
- large enough to completely and comfortably cover the nose and mouth without gaping
- secured to the head by ties or ear loops

WestJet has also implemented other measures to assist in the safety of guests and crews including enhanced physical distancing where the middle seat on our Boeing 737s and 787 aircraft and every other seat on our Bombardier Q400 are unavailable to book and left empty during travel.
WestJet also asks that guests adhere to the following guidelines, while boarding and on our aircraft:
- Keeping two metres (six feet) of distance between the guest in front and behind when boarding
- Using the WestJet App to download boarding passes to display on phones
- Using the disinfectant wipes provided during boarding to wipe down seats and table trays
- Avoiding lining up for washrooms
WestJet remains focused on the health and safety of WestJetters and guests. We hold ourselves to the highest standard to create an environment as clean as realistically possible and continue to expand and enhance our sanitization measures onboard to keep guests and crew safe.
